Canada

CPTPP tariff treatment is now in force for eligible UK-origin goods. Canadian import treatment still depends on the product, its tariff classification, the agreement used and where it originates—not simply where it was dispatched.

CPTPP is now in force with Canada. From 1 September 2026, eligible UK-origin goods can use Canada’s CPUKT tariff treatment, code 35. Check the Canadian tariff item, the CPTPP product-specific origin rule and the supporting evidence before preference is claimed. The existing UK–Canada agreement remains available as a separate route. Read the CBSA notice ↗
PRACTICAL STARTING POINTS

What to get right

CPTPP now in force

From 1 September 2026, eligible UK-origin goods can use Canada’s CPUKT tariff treatment, code 35. Check the Canadian tariff item and CPTPP origin rule.

Customs origin

Dispatch from the UK does not establish UK origin. Keep evidence showing how the goods meet the origin rule for the agreement being used.

Canadian tariff code

Match each product to the correct Canadian tariff item before deciding whether a preferential rate, surtax or ordinary duty applies.

Importer coordination

Compare CPTPP with the existing UK–Canada agreement and confirm the claim, landed cost and origin evidence with the Canadian importer or broker.
